Using the Competitor Gap Tool

The Competitor Link Gap Tool shows you which sites in MeUp's marketplace are already linking to your competitors — but not to you. It's a fast way to find high-relevance placement opportunities without manual research.

How to get there

Go to Tools in the top navigation and select Competitor Link Gap.

Step-by-step

  1. Create a project

Each project corresponds to one website. Enter the domain you want to build links for to set it up. The tool uses this as the baseline — the site you're trying to close the gap for.

  2. Add competitors

Once your project is created, add your competitors' domains. You can add up to 5. Focus on direct competitors in your niche — the sites consistently outranking you for the keywords you care about. The tool runs a full backlink scan automatically once competitors are added. This takes approximately 5 minutes.

  3. Use the Competitor Gap Match filter

Once the scan is complete, go to the marketplace and enable the Competitor gap match filter under Platform filters. This shows only marketplace placements that already have a backlink pointing to one of your added competitors. Each result in the Competitors column shows how many of your added competitors are linked from that site — the higher the number, the more your rivals are using it.

  4. Find and fill the gap

Browse the filtered results, apply any additional filters you need (DR, niche, price, link type), and order directly from the marketplace. The sites you're seeing have already demonstrated relevance to your space — your competitors' link profiles are proof.

To review all your gaps in one place, go back to Tools → Competitor Link Gap. From there you can see all your listed competitors and click through to their opportunities directly.

💡 Add a mix of direct and indirect competitors. Direct competitors

give you the most immediately relevant opportunities. Indirect

competitors — adjacent sites ranking for related terms — often

surface placements you'd otherwise miss.

💡 Use "Exclude purchased" alongside Competitor Gap Match to

hide sites you've already ordered from. This keeps the results fresh

and focused on gaps you haven't closed yet.
